Are you interested in helping save the Monarch Butterfly population? By planting species that provide a food source for both the adult Monarchs and their caterpillars you can do your part. In an effort to help you along the Live Monarch Foundation will give you free milkweed seeds if you simply send them a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Butterfly Garden: Free Milkweed Seeds
If you click the link above, you’ll be taken to a page explaining how you can get your hands on a free packet of seeds to start your own butterfly garden. By simply sending a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) to the Live Monarch Foundation they will in turn mail you 15 seeds that attract butterflies which includes some free milkweed seeds.
Looking for a larger quantity of seeds? If you make a small donation to the foundation, they will send you a larger quantity. For instance, if you donate just $3 then Live Monarch will send you 150 seeds, donate $5 and they will send you 250 butterfly garden seeds. This equates to about 50 seeds per dollar, you can’t beat that offer! Opting to donate just a few dollars also gives you the limited ability to choose which varieties of seed you’d prefer. A few of the varieties that they offer are Asclepias-curassavica (Butterfly Weed pictured above), common milkweeds varieties such as Asclepias-syriaca and Asclepias-speciosa, or you can request a mix of seeds, including Milkweed, that attract all pollinators.
What’s Included?
Every paid order includes a “how to” sheet about growing and caring for Milkweed as well as full color instructions on how to rear Monarch butterflies. I know this all sounds too good to be true but trust me this is legit. The Monarch butterfly population is in trouble and I’m grateful for the hard work put forth by the Live Monarch Foundation in their efforts to preserve this beautiful species.
