Dragon Toe Pepper Seeds
$4.99
Minimum 15 seeds per pack
Description
Plant these Dragon Toe pepper seeds and add a mythical look to your garden. These beautiful, unique and convoluted peppers originate in Southern China. The flavor is sweet with mild heat, less than a Jalapeno. Usually used green in stir fries or salads. We’ve tried eating them both green and red. There’s definitely a taste difference when bright red, a bit more sweetness as they mature. The heat level of the Dragon Toe peppers is very tolerable, even for those with a sensitive palate. Plants grow very upright, to a height of about 30″, and provide little shade from leaves so sun scorch is a risk. We’d recommend growing where some partial shade can be provided in hotter climates. Each plant will produce up to a couple dozen fruits. Pepper size is about 3-4″ with a fairly thin wall, about half the thickness of a bell pepper. The peppers hang from thick stems so we’d recommend cutting the fruit from the plant, else you risk breaking branches.
Sample size packs can be found here.
Sowing these Dragon Toe pepper seeds is no different than any other pepper variety. Unless you live in a climate that is warm year-round, starting pepper seeds indoors is recommended. Plant at a depth of 1/4″ in sterile, moist seed starting mix. Place the sown seeds in a warm area, over 75F, for the best germination rate. The use of a humidity dome over the sown seeds will ensure they don’t dry out before germination occurs. Once the seedlings break the surface of the soil be sure to provide a bright source of light to ensure they don’t stretch and become “leggy”. Light coming in a window is rarely sufficient for proper growth. Even a south facing window is usually not enough. Providing light from a fluorescent or LED fixture over the top of your sprouts will ensure proper growth. If you’re new to growing peppers from seed we recommend you take a look at our guide on starting pepper plants indoors.
