The Golden Cayenne is my favorite of the Cayennes. Give them a try if you want to take your favorite recipes to a new level then purchase these Golden Cayenne pepper seeds. These peppers have an excellent flavor that many people prefer over the traditional red cayenne. The bushy plants grow to about 24″ in height and rarely require staking despite being loaded with the 5″ chilis. Fruit is similar to the Long Slim Cayenne with a much smoother skin and a slightly thicker diameter pod. Fruit ripens from green to golden yellow. Can be used fresh but most people will grind them into powder so they can easily be added when cooking or making seasoning mixes. Try using them in your own custom seasoning mixes. Good choice for growing in containers that are 5 gallon or larger. We plant these Golden beauties every year in addition to the Long Slim Cayenne pepper seeds.
Starting Golden Cayenne Pepper Seeds
Unless you live in a climate that is warm year-round, starting pepper seeds indoors is recommended. Plant at a depth of 1/4″ in sterile, moist seed starting mix. Place the sown seeds in a warm area, over 75F, for the best germination rate. The use of a humidity dome over the sown seeds will ensure they don’t dry out before germination occurs. Once the seedlings break the surface of the soil be sure to provide a bright source of light to ensure they don’t stretch and become “leggy”. Light coming in a window is rarely sufficient for proper growth. Even a south facing window is usually not enough. Providing light from a fluorescent or LED fixture over the top of your sprouts will ensure proper growth.
