Black Sesame Seeds

Unlock the gardening potential of Black Sesame, a versatile and striking plant that brings both elegance and functionality to your outdoor space. The Black Sesame plant grows with a green stem and leaves that beautifully contrast its small, dark seeds. This plant not only adds an aesthetic dimension to your garden but is also perfect for those looking to grow their own sesame seeds for culinary purposes, without compromising on visual appeal.

Mature Height

Black Sesame plants achieve a mature height of 2 to 4 feet, making them an ideal choice for gardeners who have limited space but still seek plants that make a statement. This moderate height allows for strategic placement within garden beds, borders, or even containers.

Day to Maturity

Expect your Black Sesame plants to reach maturity within 90 to 100 days after planting. This relatively quick turnaround means you’ll be able to reap the rewards of your gardening efforts in just a few short months, making it an excellent choice for those who desire quick results. Best if started indoors pre-season in zones with short summers.

Fruit Size

The Black Sesame seeds themselves are quite small, typically ranging from 2 to 3 millimeters in length. These seeds grow in pods, which burst open when the seeds are ready for harvest. While the seeds are small, their dramatic color and unique texture make them an attractive element.

Flower Color

The Black Sesame plant produces bell-shaped, pale-pink to lavender flowers. These delicate blooms offer a soft contrast to the plant’s darker seeds, adding a layer of complexity and intrigue to its overall appearance.

Summary

Black Sesame offer a rich contrast of colors and textures for your garden. With a mature height of 2 to 4 feet, these plants are versatile for various spaces. Reaching maturity in 90 to 100 days, Black Sesame plants boast small, dark seeds and delicate, light-colored flowers.

I bought these to grow for the sesame seeds but the flowers are lovely as well.

  2. Emily

Very interesting looking plants and the hummingbirds seem to enjoy the flower. It was surprising how many seeds I got from each plant. I found that it’s best to cut down the stalks just as the majority of seed pods turned brown. If you wait till they crack open you’ll drop a lot of seeds when you harvest.
